When we aren’t at music festivals together we:

Holly: (they/them) Holly is a Ph.D. Candidate in American Studies at UT Austin, but I am from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia, holla. American Studies is weird but I mostly write about art and anti-prison activism academically, which is why in my free time I write/talk/yell about anything else. I am a ghost tour guide, a sometimes teacher, an underwear influencer, an artist. poet, and the servant to my cat Petunia. I read a lot, spend much of my time in the water, and wear really big earrings. I am also proudly neurodivergent and mentally ill. Reddit thinks my glasses are ugly, but Chrissy Teigan used to follow me on Twitter.

On that fateful day, October 4, 2004, I obsessively started watching Gilmore Girls on ABC Family from the beginning. I used my Leapfrog digital dictionary to look up the big words (I WAS 12) and tried in vain to read Rory’s Book List (it’s shit, sorry). It took me a very long time to realize I am a Paris and even longer to realize that I am v queer (and so is this show). I can recite entire episodes from memory and my goal in life is to beat Amy Sherman Palladino at Gilmore Girls Trivia. Or to borrow her hat.

JANET: (they/them). Janet is from Austin, Texas, and New Mexico, but now lives in Los Angeles and works as a film archivist. Janet is an old Hollywood nerd with an MA in Media Studies from UT Austin and a certificate in Film Preservation from the Selznick School. They are our expert on all things pop culture in Gilmore Girls, with a special emphasis on all of the old Hollywood films constantly referenced. They love going to live music, watching a lot of films, playing guitar, and obsessing about queer pop culture history. Ask them about the occult and ice caves.

While I don’t know the exact date, I began my Gilmore Girls journey in 2007, when I watched reruns on ABC Family every afternoon after school and, as any neurodivergent eighth grader might do, wrote down every pop culture reference I didn’t understand on a notepad and dutifully looked them up one by one to educate myself on the history of culture as told by this silly (and more than somewhat problematic) little show. I don’t relate to any of the characters too much BUT if I had to choose I would say I am a combo of Luke and Lorelai. Like, if Lorelai were queer and had been to therapy.
